Bluebird
The Story of Sleeping Beauty
The beautiful princess Aurora is cursed into an enchanted sleep by the evil fairy Carabosse. After 100 years she is woken by her prince Dèsirè to live happily ever after.
The Bluebird and his princess are part of the story-book characters that come to Princess Aurora and Prince Dèsirè’s wedding in the last act of The Sleeping Beauty.
Bluebird and Princess Florine
A King has a lovely daughter, Florine. He marries for a second time, and his wife and her ugly daughter, Troutina (because she looks like a fish!) torment poor Florine.
When Prince Desire visits their court and falls in love with Florine, the evil stepmother locks her in a tower and tries all kind stratagems to make him marry Troutina. When he refuses, they have him turned into a Bluebird. In this guise, he visits Florine in her tower, bringing her jewels and he sings his love to her.
Here the Bluebird teaches Princess Florine how to fly and helps her escape the tower.
