Catherine Szabo
Catherine trained in the Vaganova method from a young age under the guidance of Patrina Coates (Borovansky Ballet), and after attending Tanya Pearson’s Classical Coaching Academy in Sydney she pursued Ballet at the Hungarian National Dance Academy in Budapest, graduating in 2014 with a BA majoring in performance and classical dance.
Catherine worked with the Miskolc Ballet performing in classical ballets, contemporary pieces and operas before returning to Sydney in 2016.
Since then Catherine has been teaching classical ballet to students of all ages, freelancing as a dancer and has also completed a Medical Science degree at Macquarie University.
Performing for Opera Australia in AIDA, LAKMÉ (Royal Opera House Muscat, Dance Captain), ANNA BOLENA, and most recently IL VIAGGIO A REIMS she was also nominated and shortlisted for an Australian Dance Award in 2018 for her performance in the independent dance film “Unstilled” as well as a dance double in feature film “Dance Academy”.
Catherine continues to be involved in dance projects and film while teaching both adults and children on a regular basis, including DUTI studios, Sydney Dance Company and Danceworks Sydney.
In 2020 Catherine will begin a Doctorate in Medicine and Surgery at the Australian National University whilst continuing to impart her dancing knowledge and skills to her students locally and with BWA at our regional workshops.
